Auditions and Meditations
Figures that Freud could love, pasta bikini among
artists'eclectic visions
by
Robert L. Pincus
...Pasta, paintings, etc.
If an artist with an Italian name, like Lisa
Venditelli, is going to make a string bikini, what
would be the logical material? Pasta, of course.
Her two-piece looks ready to serve, set as it is on
satin and sealed under a culinary cover (the
technical term is a cloche). Lots of room for
interpretation here. And "La Dolce Vita," as she
calls this construction, is both funny and
feminist, psychologically charged and visually
witty.
Venditelli's conceptual fashion statement is one of
the memorable works in this seventh version of the
Athenaeum's annual juried show judged by Elizabeth
Armstrong, senior curator at the Museum of
Contemporary Art, San Diego, and Bonnie Wright,
director of Spruce Street Forum...
